What Are New Energy Cables?

As the name suggests, New Energy Cables are specialized cables designed and manufactured for the new energy industry, which includes photovoltaics (PV), wind power, energy storage, and electric vehicles. Unlike conventional cables that are mainly used for grid access, new energy cables serve as the "blood vessels" for energy transmission, directly supporting the generation, storage, and application of clean energy.
These cables are typically required to handle high voltage and high current while withstanding prolonged exposure to harsh outdoor environments.

Four Main Types
The core application areas of new energy cables include:
Photovoltaic Cables (PV Cables): Used for connections between solar panels and for transmitting power to combiner boxes or inverters. Representative models include dedicated PV DC cables such as PV1-F and H1Z2Z2-K.
Wind Power Cables: Applied inside wind turbines (nacelle, tower) and for grid connection. Typical examples include torsion-resistant flexible cables and wind power cables with high cold resistance and corrosion resistance.
Energy Storage Cables: Used to connect battery modules, battery management systems (BMS), and power conversion systems (PCS).
EV / EV Charging Cables: Include charging pile cables that connect charging stations to vehicles (e.g., low-density lightweight high-performance charging pile cables), as well as onboard high-voltage cables for power transmission inside electric vehicles.

Core Technical Characteristics
Compared with conventional cables, new energy cables have much higher technical requirements in design and materials, mainly reflected in the following six aspects:
High Voltage and High Current Withstand Capability: They can withstand higher rated voltages. For example, PV cables are generally suitable for 1500 V DC systems and support high-current transmission.
Wide Operating Temperature Range: They operate normally in extreme temperatures ranging from –40 °C to over +120 °C, adapting to harsh climates such as deserts and plateaus.
Superior Weather Resistance: Through rigorous ultraviolet (UV) aging tests, they ensure a service life of more than 25 years under prolonged outdoor sunlight exposure.
Excellent Mechanical Properties: Conductors are made of high-purity oxygen-free copper or tinned copper using multi-strand stranding (Class 5/6 flexible conductors), providing good flexibility and bending resistance.
Safety and Environmental Friendliness: They generally use Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) flame-retardant materials, emitting very little smoke and no toxic hydrogen halide gases when burned, complying with RoHS and other environmental standards.
Anti‑Electromagnetic Interference (EMI): Cables used in electric vehicles and precision equipment are often designed with double-layer shielding (e.g., aluminum foil + braided copper mesh) to ensure signal transmission stability.

Key Standards and Certifications
To ensure product quality, internationally recognized certifications are critical for assessing reliability.
Photovoltaic Cables: Mainly follow the German TÜV standard 2PfG 1169 (corresponding to the PV1-F model) or the newer European standard EN 50618 (corresponding to the H1Z2Z2-K model). In addition, IEC 62930 is another important international standard.
EV / Charging Cables: In addition to meeting TÜV certification, they must comply with international standard ISO 6722 (for onboard electrical systems) and Chinese national standard GB/T 18487.1 (for charging systems), among others.
Energy Storage and Other Cables: Generally follow standards such as IEC 61412, with clear requirements for flame retardancy (e.g., UL94 V‑0) and short-circuit withstand current.
